Gilman Township is a rural mix of farmland, woodland and creeks. There are dairy, beef and crop farms along with specialty farms including an elk farm, an apple orchard, and greenhouse and nursery operations. This is a picturesque area of Northwest Wisconsin, with lots of recreational opportunities available nearby, from hiking and camping to hunting and fishing.
Gilman's Plan Commission did an in-depth study of community concerns around industrial livestock production and added excellent research to the Operations Ordinances passed by counties and towns before them. Appendix A2 has an exceptional compilation of the research with an index.
In addition, the town took written comments on the recommended ordinance and held a public hearing on the ordinance. It was passed on December 10, 2025.
